Lisbee recently supported Joan Armatrading at The Symphony Hall.
Album - Girl On An Unmade Bed
"Bound for glory...an exquisite slice of traditional songwriting" - The Times
"At 21, Lisbee Stainton already has the ear of Radio 2, BBC 6 music, and a song destined for United Nations Peace Day next year. Her appeal is clear and simple: slowly revolving rhythms, wistful English melancholy with a soulful undertow and a sweet folk-pop voice. 'Peace and quiet is not a London thing/This is why birds migrate to sing,' she croons on Practice Room, a song about the art of song-writing. Produced by Rupert Christie, this debut is augmented by warm, subtle strings, and the odd mandolin. Some tracks sound affected (Harriet is marked by a Lily Allen-style whimsical 'charm') but the strongest songs are her simplest, the focus on Stainton and her 8-string guitar, as in the quietly moving Wait For Me. More like this, and we will" - Mojo Magazine
"What's it made of? Cultured folk-pop arrangements built around the thrum of Stainton's guitar, gently cushioning her unaffected toy-soprano mini-voice. How is it woven? Intimately, subtly, sophisticatedly and with a keen ear for the play of the language of very young women. She wears it well" - Independent On Sunday
When Lisbee Stainton’s debut single ‘Red’ was playlisted for 5 weeks by BBC Radio 2 at the start of 2009 it signalled the arrival of a very special songwriting talent.
Now, after a year of performing live concerts all over the UK, the 21 year-old London-based singer-songwriter is finally set to release her much anticipated second album ‘Girl On An Unmade Bed’ on indie label Marionet, distributed by Universal courtesy of Absolute Marketing, and available at HMV and on iTunes, 7-digital and Amazon.
Lisbee originally launched her career 18 months ago, when she became the first unsigned singer-songwriter to play London’s O2 Arena, performing to a 30,000 strong audience. However, it was when BBC 6Music DJ Tom Robinson asked Lisbee for a copy of ‘Red’ after hearing it on her MySpace page that the ball really started rolling.
Describing Lisbee as “a serious young talent” and ‘Red’ as “a classic”, Robinson’s support has continued, with Lisbee returning to play live sessions on his shows on 6 Music and Radio 2. In Tom’s words: “Wow! Sensational! Absolutely mint! Featuring the astonishing eight-string guitar technique of Lisbee Stainton.”
Since then, Lisbee has had ‘Just Like Me’ (currently in the Top 30 in South East Asia) from her debut album voted ‘Record of The Week’ on the BBC’s Radcliffe & Maconie Show, played live sessions for BBC 6Music, had GMTV’s news announce Lisbee a star in the making, and on Friday 16th October 2009, The Times declared: “Bound for Glory - Lisbee Stainton and her eight string guitar….an exquisite slice of traditional songwriting: pure and pitch perfect.”
Published by Hornall Bros, several tracks from ‘Girl On An Unmade Bed’ were recorded at Abbey Road in the legendary Beatles Studio 2, where Lisbee worked closely with producer Rupert Christie, whose credits include U2, Kate Bush, Coldplay & Lou Reed. One of the tracks from these sessions was recorded as a tribute to the work of Peace One Day and has since been chosen for United Nations Peace Day on September 21st 2010 – a year many people are predicting will establish Lisbee as one of the UK’s brightest songwriting talents.
