“When Jo sings, something thaws that I didn’t even realise was frozen”
- Sweet Billy Pilgrim
(artist signed to David Sylvian's Samadhisound label)

“A staggering voice that can brush softly against your soul or fill you with the intensity of an earthquake”
- Scott Matthews (singer/songwriter)

To celebrate the release of Jo Hamilton's long-awaited album 'Gown', the Glee Club is the scene of a very special concert/party on release day, open to all.

Jo will be performing with full band and guests, and there will be other entertainment to delight the senses. Come along and step into the world of Gown for an evening over a complimentary glass of Wild Hibiscus Fizz, and mingle with the team who've been working on it (and are all themselves looking forward to a jolly good knees-up).

Produced by Jon Cotton, producer of Scott Matthews' Ivor Novello Award-winning 'Passing Stranger', Gown is a mesmerising work of left-of-centre pop, threaded-through with hope and surmounted by the uniquely stunning voice of Jo Hamilton.

Already likened to other groundbreaking female artists of their time such as KATE BUSH, ANNIE LENNOX and POLLY HARVEY; Jo's music will also strike a chord with fans of contemporary artists such as IMOGEN HEAP, FEIST and REGINA SPEKTOR.

At a time of collective reconsideration, Gown is a breath of fresh air, a call to hope and the type of subtly profound record that stays with you. 2 years in the making, Gown started life as a series of sketches by Jo (who is a multi-instrumentalist and programmer), threaded together by field recordings she had made in Cambodia.

Born to a white Jamaican mother and white Kenyan father of Shetland heritage, Jo had a semi-nomadic childhood alternating between a remote house in Scotland two miles from any neighbour and spells living in Turkey, Kuwait, UAE, Saudi Arabia and Sri Lanka. Her songs are filled with observations of the world both small and large - from grief and global warming to the happy dogs of Sri Lanka; mountains in Scotland to beetles in Kuwait which have extra long legs because of the heat.

Gown exudes empathy. It is a commentary reflecting our own hopes, our glories and our tragedies; a commentary which somehow manages to harness the overwhelming nostalgic emotion of the old Gaelic lullabies of her childhood and apply it unflinchingly to a complex multicultural world of iPods and urbanism - often with devastating effect. Jo has the ability to bring rare emotional depth to bear on the modern world, and remind us that underneath it all we are all the same, and the same things matter that have always mattered.

In Gown's paean to optimism ‘There it is', Jo maybe says it best: Looking ahead what’s round the corner Intriguing adventures all around Leaving the map slightly unmapped Focus but not too tight The end of that verse contains perhaps the essence of Gown and maybe of Jo herself; that where the lines are most smudged, there we can find beauty. As the TV flickers out and credit cards are declined, Jo reminds us what it is to wonder at the world and that while we can still do so, there’s always hope.

"Sophisticated, sensuous, complex, layered and utterly beguiling, there’s a song here called Paradise. A better description of the album would be hard to conjure." www.netrhythms.co.uk
