Apple Tree is a new Art LIVE night in Birmingham, produced by Keneish Dance. It is a night out which promises to excite, refresh and stimulate your senses. Expect to be wowed by this unique and eclectic combination of inspirational talent featuring Smash Entertainz, Annette Fagon, Keisha Grant, Reuben James Trio, Laura Vanhulle & Seifeddine Manai, Trope UK, Urbantrix.
Reuben James Trio
Birmingham born jazz pianist, Reuben James returns to his home city after touring the world with multi Grammy award winner Sam Smith. He brings an unforgettable panache to both standards and his original compositions. Reuben is a must see for all lovers of Jazz entertainment. “Britain’s best young jazz pianist…. Smash deftly combines his singing & lyrical skills with his comedic talents. He was the first Birmingham comic to make an appearance on Real Deal Comedy Jam
Keisha is no secret to the intriguing, eclectic and gritty world of Afro fusion and Contemporary dance, winning ‘most promising dancer’ in 5 different competitions. She has toured internationally with Tavaziva Dance, ACE Dance and Music, State Of Emergency, Movement Angol and Carl Campbell. After being tipped as ‘the one to watch’ by West Midlands Dance Keisha founded Keneish Dance and to date has received commissions to produce 6 acclaimed dance works.
Keisha will present her trademark contemporary style in a unique collaboration with Birmingham based guitarist Reuben Reynolds. The work is supported by ACE Dance and Music, DanceXchange, and funded by Arts Council England.
Reuben Reynolds has held the role of Music Director and Band Leader of Aston Performing Arts Academy, leading youth projects as part of Birmingham Symphony Hall’s Programming & Education Teams and commissioned works by Punch Records, Reuben is known for his tireless enthusiasm, high standards and attention to detail. After achieving a First Class BA Honours Degree in Music Performance and Professional Practice from Coventry University in 2012, he has also began teaching Guitar and Music Theory privately and in schools, as-well-as facilitating music workshops, across the country.
Annette Fagon is known as a loud and engaging comic … currently talking – loudly – about everything from hoodies and mobile phone habits to Beyonces’s mental state. She was nominated for Best Newcomer at the BECA Awards and won Midlands Stand Up Runner up.
Laura Vanhulle & Seifeddine Manai
Originally from Belgium, the gymnastically trained and technically flawless ballet and contemporary trained dancer moved to UK to train at Northern School of Contemporary Dance. Since graduating Laura has worked with ACE Dance and Music, Shobana Jeyasingh, Coda Dance Theatre, Keneish Dance Company, Motionhouse, Rutherford Dance Company, Room 2 Manoeuvre, Askash Odedra, Sonia Sabri Company and Autin Dance Theatre. After receiving her first Grants for the Arts Award from Arts Council England, her debut full length production “Angles In Life” toured nationally, and her film short ‘Angels in Life’ internationally. Laura presents her film short made in collaboration with film maker Mathew Beckett and Tunisian artist Seifeddine. ‘Angles In Life’, will transport you to a cinematic dream like world, with an emotional, gestural and human edge set against urban landscapes of Birmingham.
Trope started out life reworking the music of Stevie Wonder, debuting at Mostly Jazz Funk & Soul Festival before the mighty Nile Rodgers & Chic. They have since released their ‘Butterflies & Dragons’ ep; a heady mix of Soul, Jazz and Hip Hop. Comparisons have been made to Hiatus Kaiyote, Brotherly and Heritage Orchestra. They have been featured on BBC Introducing, made the Bandcamp New & Notable Records section and were recently nominated for ‘Best New Artist’ alongside The Internet, Dayme Arocena and Kamasi Washington at the 2016 JAJ Awards in Japan.
Urbantrix are known on the tricking, pakour and martial arts competition circuit. They currently hold the only tricking and street acrobatic academy in the West Midlands. Tricking is a blend kicks flips and twists with an emphasis on style and individuality.
