Woody Allen’s early career is a fascinating period. He wrote and sold jokes to comedians while still at school! Within a few years he was writing for some of the most iconic American comedy TV shows, including Sid Caesar’s Show of Shows and The Tonight Show.

The agents (later Woody’s movie producers) Charles Joffe and Jack Rollins saw his huge potential and encouraged him to perform his own material. Despite Woody’s initial resistance and nerves he soon progressed from New York clubs to Las Vegas, the Dean Martin and Ed Sullivan TV shows and three best selling live LPs of his ’64-’68 shows. He became the most successful comedy writer in movie history with five Oscars, nine BAFTAs and two Golden Globes…so far.

Simon Schatzberger’s appearances include Band of Brothers, Black Books, Eastenders and The Cottage, working with directors such as Tom Hanks, Tom Hooper, Mike Leigh and actors including Simon Pegg, Jessica Hynes, Bill Bailey and Hayley Atwell.

He first heard and loved Woody’s stand-up comedy in the ‘90s when his brother bought him the cassettes. A mere twenty years later he had the idea of performing the routines, playing sell out shows in London and Edinburgh for Woody fans and people discovering his early days and this brilliant material for the first time.
