Daliso Chaponda: Topical Storm (14+)The Glee Club Birmingham

Daliso Chaponda has been writing jokes about the news for over a decade - on Have I Got News For You, Radio 4' News Quiz, Australia's Good News Week and many more besides. (In fact he's seen the news from both sides, having been in the tabloids himself.) But recently the news has been so absurd, chaotic and overwhelming that it more or less mocks itself. Where do we go from here?

Daliso Chaponda: Topical Storm – Tour 2025

Daliso Chaponda has been writing jokes about the news for over a decade – on Have I Got News For You, Radio 4′ News Quiz, Australia’s Good News Week and many more besides. (In fact he’s seen the news from both sides, having been in the tabloids himself.) But recently the news has been so absurd, chaotic and overwhelming that it more or less mocks itself. Where do we go from here?

Topical Storm is Daliso’s response. A show not about THE news but about news itself. Journalists, bloggers, fake news, satirical news: have we lost the thread of it all? Is the reporting of news endlessly polarising us as a society rather than educating us? Would we be better off going right back to the first ever news bulletin – the original caveman drawing on a wall – and starting from scratch? Daliso does just that in this explosive new standup show.

About Daliso…

With over 300 million views of his stand up online, Daliso shot to fame on Britain’s Got Talent making it to the final of the 2017 series and establishing himself a firm favourite with the judges and the British public.

Since then, Daliso has gone on to become a TV and Radio regular. Appearances include The Royal Variety Performance, Good Evening Britain and Britain’s Got Talent Champions 2019 (ITV), The Complaints Department and Rhod Gilbert’s Growing Pains (Comedy Central), Unforgivable (Dave), The News Quiz, Just A Minute, Citizen of Nowhere  and The Now Show (BBC Radio 4). Daliso is also a regular guest on QI and The Apprentice: You’re Fired (BBC2).

Daliso is also the writer, creator, and host of his Rose d’Or nominated BBC Radio 4 show Citizen of Nowhere. The third series aired in October 2021 and he also hosted a brand new show The Exploding Library for BBC Radio 4 in November 2021.

He has performed around the world and at the Edinburgh, Melbourne, Singapore, and Cape Town comedy festivals. He has also toured the UK twice to sell-out audiences and rave reviews.

In December 2021, Daliso made his pantomime debut as the principal comedian in Aladdin at the Redhill Theatre in Surrey, receiving rave reviews.

In addition to stand up, Daliso is also a prolific fiction writer. He has published science fiction, murder mysteries and fantasy fiction in numerous magazines, and anthologies. He is currently working on his new novel and a children’s book.
